LHS ALUMNI NEWS/EVENTS

9th Annual Holiday Food Drive

SPONSORED by SISTERS & BROTHERS OF COLOR & LHSAA

There’s a long tradition at Lincoln of giving back to the community. For the past nine years, the Lincoln Alumni Food Drive has brought together students, parents, staff, and alumni to help Portland’s hungry—including Lincoln families in need—during the holidays. Because of the  ongoing construction at Lincoln, we won’t be gathering this year to assemble and deliver food boxes, but the need for food assistance is greater than ever.

Please give what you can, every dollar helps. A gift of just $90 provides grocery gift cards to three families in need. Our plan is to once again purchase and distribute grocery gift cards to families in need of food assistance. We’ll be joining forces with Lincoln’s Brothers of Color and Sisters of Color and with food drive volunteers at other schools around the city. Please join us in this effort to fight hunger in our community and to help ensure a brighter holiday season for hundreds of our fellow citizens.

Donate your tax-deductible gift today ~ All funds go directly to purchasing grocery gift cards.

The renown Tom Hardy sculpture of bronze swooping birds, dedicated to LHS in 1960, is now prominently displayed in the central courtyard on the new campus. PPS alum Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini dropped by at lunch for an impromptu concert in the LHS Commons foyer during the first week of school, LHS Junior Isaac Coltman followed Thomas, showcasing his impressive piano playing talent!

An Inspirational New Home for Lincoln High

This new 21st-century learning environment will provide Lincoln’s student population with modern facilities, programs and opportunities for success. The six-story school features two theaters, band and choir studios, two gyms, and a student commons with an outdoor plaza that provide a welcoming and interactive space for all students to gather.  Additional highlights include enhanced arts facilities, STEM / Maker Spaces, upgraded science labs, and specialized Career Technical Education facilities.

The second and final phase of the rebuild project is now underway with the demolition of the old Lincoln High School building.  It is making way for a new track and field that will include a 1,500-seat grandstand. These facilities will open in the fall of 2023.

The Lincoln High School staff and students, PPS, and the Office of School Modernization thank Portland voters for the passage of the 2012, 2017 and 2020 School Bonds. These bonds allow PPS to continue the vital work of upgrading the health, safety and functionality of our aging school buildings.  For more information about PPS bond projects, please visit the PPS Bond webpage.
